I served in the Navy, honing my leadership and decision-making skills as commander of an aircraft and crew during the height of the Cold War. There, I developed “crisis-tested leadership skills,” which were forged not in a battle with the competition, but in the dark skies above the Pacific Ocean as I flew an aircraft whose engine had caught on fire. I found myself clear-headed and decisive under extraordinary circumstances and have applied that same leadership style in everything I do.
